Understanding Adolescent Brain Development and Risk Taking

Dr. Ruth Potee, a well-known physician, board-certified in Family Medicine and Addiction Medicine will discuss teen brain development and its impact on risk-taking behavior, including the use of opiates, other drugs and alcohol, and what this means for parents of teens. Participants will learn about the function of the teen/tween brain, the vulnerabilities of youth and addiction, prevention strategies, the connection of athletes and sports injuries to potential misuse, and other home, family, and community considerations about access to these harmful substances. She will address why some people struggle with addiction, while others seem immune, and identify what factors affect addiction and what can be done to reduce the chance of addiction in our children, as they mature. At the end of the talk, Dr. Potee will conduct a Q & A with the audience.

8th Grade Orientation

8th Grade Orientation evening is Monday, February 25th at 6:00 PM. We will begin at 6:00 PM with our Department Fair in the cafeteria. This will be followed by a presentation in the auditorium. We have some significant changes for the 2019-2020 school year and we hope to describe them to you at this event.

Come join us as we discuss how we can make a difference in the lives of people in our community. We will plan and coordinate small, but meaningful ways that we can spread kindness through various R.A.K ATTACKS!
